MGMA plays a crucial role in ensuring that its member factories adhere to labor standards through the Voluntary Labour Compliance Assessment (VLCA). This assessment program is designed to evaluate the compliance performance of factories based on national labor laws. However, in situations where the law is silent or unclear, the VLCA steps in to define a baseline for compliance. To address these gaps, the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association ratified a Code of Conduct in January 2015 for its member factories. This Code of Conduct is meant as a guide and framework for responsible business practices in Myanmar’s apparel sector.

MGMA can help with explaining the rules and values outlined in our Code of Conduct. Constructive criticism is welcomed and should be sent to: profficer.mgma@gmail.com so that we can consider your suggestions when the Code is due for revision in December.

VLCA ensures that all aspects of labor compliance are assessed and monitored regularly. Factories that participate in the VLCA assessments will be evaluated based on these established policies, which serve as the foundation for maintaining fair and lawful labor practices within the industry.
